For accepted case reports, case series, and clinical audits, the standard Article Processing Charge (APC) is €220 plus applicable tax. Publication is subject to meeting our editorial standards and agreement to publish under a Creative Commons CC BY license.

APCs are payable only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication. No APC is payable at submission, during initial editorial screening, or during peer review. Payment does not influence editorial decisions or guarantee acceptance. APCs support editorial, peer-review, production, and open-access hosting costs.

APC Applicability:

Case Reports, Case Series and Clinical Audits: €220 plus applicable tax. Letters to the Editor and Image Articles: €40 plus applicable tax. Short Communications, Technical Notes, Surgical Videos and Illustrative Techniques: €75 plus applicable tax.

Original Articles and Review Articles have no APC. Editorials: Editorials are published by invitation only and carry no article processing charge (APC).

Discounts and Concessions:

We do not generally offer full APC waivers. The following non-cumulative discounts apply exclusively to article types carrying the standard €220 APC. No discounts apply to article types carrying APCs of €40 or €75. Eligibility may be verified.

• Students and trainees: 25% discount — €165 plus applicable tax.
• Authors from developing countries (as classified by the World Bank): 35% discount — €143 plus applicable tax.
• NGOs, charities, and eligible authors facing genuine financial hardship: 55% discount — €99 plus applicable tax.
• Members of the Irish Association of International Doctors (IAID): 55% discount, €99 plus applicable tax. Members send evidence of membership after acceptance, when the APC is requested.

Applying for a Discount:

Authors must request a discount before submitting their manuscript by emailing contact@ejmcr.com. Approval is not automatic. IAID members are the exception: they do not need to request the discount before submission, and send evidence of membership after acceptance instead. Requests for concessions beyond the standard discounts are considered only in exceptional cases.

Post-Publication Correction Fees

Corrections During Author Proofs: Corrections requested and completed during the author proof stage, before publication, are made without an additional correction fee.

Post-Publication Correction Processing Fee: €99 per approved request. Once an article has been published, author-requested corrections are subject to editorial assessment and a processing fee of €99 per approved correction request. This includes corrections to author names, affiliations, article text, scientific information, data, tables, figures, captions and publication metadata. The fee applies regardless of whether an error originated with the authors or was introduced during production, as the final article is published after author proof approval.

Processing and Payment: The processing fee covers additional editorial and production work, which may include preparation of revised PDF, HTML and XML files, metadata updates and submission of corrected information to relevant databases. Editorial approval is required before a correction is processed. Payment must be completed before an approved author-requested correction is implemented. Payment does not guarantee editorial approval, and the journal cannot guarantee when independent external databases will display updated information.

Author Name Changes: A post-publication author name change is subject to the same €99 processing fee per approved correction request. An additional name-change fee is not charged for the same request. Existing identity-verification and documentation requirements remain applicable.

Expressions of Concern and Retractions: No fee is charged for issuing an expression of concern or retraction. These are editorial actions taken where appropriate to protect the integrity of the scholarly record and are independent of author-requested correction processing fees.

Reporting Scientific Errors: Authors who identify a substantive error in a published article must inform the Editorial Office promptly. Reporting and editorial assessment of such concerns are not conditional on payment. An author-requested correction remains subject to the applicable processing fee, while the journal retains independent authority to consider an expression of concern, retraction or other appropriate integrity action.
